Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using the If You Read This mobile application. By creating an account or using our service, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. The Service
If You Read This provides a dead man's switch messaging service. You set a check-in interval, write personal messages, and designate contacts. If you miss your check-in deadline after receiving escalating reminders, your messages are automatically sent to your contacts.
The service operates automatically. Once configured and the deadline passes, messages are sent without further action or confirmation from you. You are responsible for ensuring your settings reflect your intentions.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use this service. By using the app, you represent that you meet this requirement.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
You are responsible for keeping your check-in schedule active. If you do not wish messages to be sent, you must check in before your deadline or disable the service.
4. Message Content
You agree not to use the service to send messages that:
- Are unlawful, harassing, threatening, or abusive
- Violate the privacy or rights of any person
- Contain spam, malware, or fraudulent content
- Infringe on any intellectual property rights
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these content standards.
5. Contact Consent
By adding a contact to your account, you represent that you have a legitimate personal relationship with that person and that sending them a message in the event of your missed check-in is appropriate. You are responsible for ensuring your contacts are willing to receive such messages.
6. Service Availability
We strive to maintain reliable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Message delivery depends on third-party carriers and services. If You Read This should not be relied upon as a sole emergency communication method. Always contact emergency services directly in a life-threatening situation.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
The app offers a free tier and a Pro subscription. Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to those platforms' billing terms. You may cancel at any time through your platform's subscription settings.
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms. Upon termination, your messages and contact data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that messages will be delivered in every circumstance.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, If You Read This shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to undelivered messages or unintended message delivery.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
